Marie Miller Obituary
Born in Manhattan in 1934, Marie Miller attended James Monroe High School in the Bronx and in October 1954, married the love of her life, James J. Miller, III, who as she often said, "made her knees knock for their entire marriage.". She was a fantastic and loving mother to three sons, raising them with strength and kindness. Known for her energetic personality, sense of humor, and genuine friendliness, she brought fun and laughter wherever she went. When faced with challenges, she met them with resilience, guided by her strong moral compass and inner strength.
One of her pleasures was active volunteering at St. Benedict's Church and School, serving on the Parish Council, the Christian Mothers, and a "class mother.". She took particular pride in her role as one of the beloved "Gym Mothers," where she enthusiastically taught physical education to the elementary school children, leaving a lasting impression on many of the students who attended in the 1970s. She also had a large community of dear friends in Throgg's Neck that grew through that involvement.
She also worked for many years at the Morstan Agency, where she was respected for her dedication and work ethic and beloved for the liveliness she brought to the office.
In retirement, she moved to Florida, embracing a vibrant new chapter filled with travel and community involvement. Always a natural in front of a group, she made frequent appearances in her community shows that included singing, comedy, and even tap dancing – as well as "bringing the house down" in memorable duos with her Florida bestie, Mae Lazarus. Marie also continued to indulge her love of children by engaging as a reading tutor to elementary school students in the Palm Beach County schools. Her retirement years were among her happiest, as she fully enjoyed life – connecting deeply with her dear friends through her spirited presence, involvement, and engagement in so many of the activities her community offered.
She was predeceased by her husband, James, and her son, Jimmy. She is survived by her sons Scott (and his wife Gladys) and Michael, and her daughter-in-law Donna. There are few that she loved more intensely than her cherished grandchildren who also survive her: Jimmy Miller, Linamarie Miller, Michelle Miller and Christine Madio (and her husband, James) all of whom carry forward her legacy of warmth, humor, and love.
A truly one-of-a-kind person, she will be remembered and missed for being an excellent friend, possessing positive energy, and sharing her wonderful sense of humor. She will be deeply missed.
