Noel Anderson Goodridge Obituary
Noel Anderson Goodridge passed away, peacefully, on Saturday, February 8, 2025 in Newport News, Virginia after a brief illness with lymphoma. Born in Saint Michael, Barbados, on June 18, 1961, he immigrated to Brooklyn, New York at the age of 9, along with his sister, Gayle and cousin Beverly, to live with his mother, Jean Moore.
Noel attended Erasmus High School in Brooklyn and upon graduation in 1979 he joined the United States Marine Corps. Noel would later return to Brooklyn and begin his long tenure at the Brooklyn Museum. There, he was affectionately known as "Goody," or "The General," by his colleagues. During his 33-year tenure, he worked first as a security guard and would later become Senior Supervisor of Building Maintenance until his retirement in 2017.
In 2015, he met his wife, Gail, and moved to Smithfield, Virginia, shortly after his retirement from the Brooklyn Museum. There he would enjoy long scenic walks, trips to the beach and sitting on the fishing pier accompanied by their beloved dog, RiRi.
Noel will be remembered as a kind and loving man who was devoted to his family and friends. He leaves to mourn his devoted wife, Gail Goodridge, daughter, Tyler Goodridge, mother Jean Moore, sister Gayle Olton, niece Leah Goodridge, aunt Audrey Moore–Phillips, cousins Beverly Springer (Erskine), Kim Springer, Randy Springer, Sandra Goodridge, Paulette, Frank, Ronald, Linda and Nancy Moore and the extended Moore family of Barbados, U.S.A., the United Kingdom, Canada, and Europe. He was preceded in death by his father, Byron Goodridge.
The eulogy was delivered by Leah Goodridge at the funeral service.
