He is survived by: his wife Judith Devine; his children, John (Laurie), Susan Schmittendorf (Steve), Robert, Kevin (Barbara) and Marybeth Bates (John); and his sister Ellen Menke. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to the Bishop-Timon St. Jude High School in John's memory.
