He was loved and cherished by many people including : his wife Alice M. McDonald; his children, Mary Elizabeth Cialfi (James), Thomas Eugene McDonald (Dawn) and Megan McDonald (Mary); his grandchildren, Lisa, James, Kevin, Caitlin, Ryan, Matthew and John "Jack"; and his siblings, Margaret Long (late Joseph), Loretta Hughes (late Robert), Michael McDonald and Robert McDonald (Mae). He was also cherished by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 9th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the C. Mertz and Son Funeral Home, Inc. (911 Englewood Ave, Buffalo, NY 14223). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 10th 2024 at 9:30 AM at the St. John the Baptist Church (1085 Englewood Ave, Buffalo, NY 14223).
