James Franklin Hathaway Sr. Obituary
We announce the death of James Franklin Hathaway Sr. in Springfield, Vermont, who passed away on October 2, 2026, at the age of 91. James Franklin will be remembered by family members, friends, and others whose lives were connected in meaningful ways. He was predeceased by: his parents, Dexter Abel and Gertrude Rhua Hathaway (Burditt); his wife Ruth Espy Cleveland Hathaway; his son James Franklin Hathaway, Jr.; and his siblings, Dexter Hathaway (Nancy), Fred Hathaway (Harriet), William Hathaway, Robert Hathaway and Elizabeth Bottomley.
He is survived by: his daughters, Winona Espy Hathaway (Scott Eastman) of Salem, NY and Kyle Dawn Hathaway of Troy, NY; his siblings, John Hathaway (Reba) of West Winfield, NY and Dorothea Roberts (late Gerald Roberts) of Rutland, VT; his sister-in-law Audrey Hathaway (late Robert Hathaway) of Brandon, VT.; his grandchildren, Connor, Zachery (Kristin) and Jillian Eastman; and his great grandchildren, Ethan, Evan, Magnolia and Arlo Eastman. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, October 22nd 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the McClellan-Gariepy Funeral Home (19 E Broadway, Salem, NY 12865). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 23rd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Pawlet Community Church (38 VT-133, Pawlet, VT 05761).
