He was predeceased by: his parents, George, Jr. Gates and Nancy Gates (Stankivitz); his brother Gregory D. Gates; and his great-nephew Izzayah Avery. He is survived by: his wife Lesley A. Schon; his daughter Shannon Gates of Canastota; his sister Kimberly (James Schoeneck); his stepfather Edward Burghardt of Bridgeport; his grandchildren, Gregory Truman and Greyson Truman; and his nieces, Alicia McNair, Kayla Avery, BreAnna Avery and Marissa Avery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc. (201 James St, Canastota, NY 13032). A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 6th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the American Legion Post #169 (398 N Main St, Oneida, NY 13421).
