With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Janette Gavitt of Canisteo, New York, born in Jasper, New York, who passed away on October 25, 2025 at the age of 88. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Earl Flint and Marie Flint; and her siblings, Bessie, Madeline, Earl, Elijah "Red", Carl, Arnold, Dale, Sharon and Ronald.
She is survived by: her husband Charles Gavitt; her children, Allen Drake of Greeneville Tennessee, Lorraine Carr (Robert) of Buffalo, Kevin Drake of Newland, Charles Drake (Ella) of Eastvale, Barry Drake (Karen) of Irvine, Daniel Drake of Jasper and Sonja Weepie (Daryl) of Yorba Linda, California; her stepchildren, Linda Fitzgerald (Mark), Charles Gavitt, Jr., Bonnie Reidinger (Joseph), James Gavitt, Sr. (Hui), David Gavitt, Sr. (Teri) and Darlene Cryer (Russell); and her siblings, Marlene (Dennis) and Duane Flint (Sue) of Jasper. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 1st 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Homes - Canisteo (6 Spruce St, Canisteo, NY 14823). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 1st 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the food bank of the Southern Tier.
