He was predeceased by : his parents, Frederick E. Backus and Patricia M. Backus (Gengler); and his brother Richard Backus. He is survived by : his children, Doug Backus (Becky) of Camden, DE, Derek "Woody" Backus (Caitlin) of Morley and Kristin Backus (Angela) of Massena; his grandchildren, Donald, Jaylee, Joey, Alivia and Avery; his siblings, Lawrence Backus (Beverly) of Oswego and Wanda Lee of DeKalb Junction; and his sister-in-law Coral Backus of Wolfforth, TX..

Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 17th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Lawrence Funeral Home (21 Park St, Canton, NY 13617).
