He was predeceased by: his parents, John Schmitt and Margaret Weber Schmitt; his wife Winona Halstead Schmitt; his children, Karen Blake and Stephen Schmitt; and his son-in-law Keith Titus.

He is survived by: his children, David Schmitt (Marilyn) of Cato, Debbie Titus of Cato, Roxanne Rogers (Dennis) of Cato, Janet Quinn (David) of Cato, Bruce Schmitt (Christine) of Cato, James Schmitt (Jackie) of Cato and Heidi Dennison (Jody) of Cato; his sister Doris Murphy of Baldwinsville; and his children-in-law, Peter Blake of Cato and Rebecca Schmitt. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1st 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church (2576 Mechanic St, Cato, NY 13033). A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 1st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, August 1st 2025 at the Cato Union Hill Cemetery.
