He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Bookman and Helen Bookman (Schulenburg); and his daughter Heather. He is survived by: his wife Zita; his sister Maryanne; his children, Marc Bookman (Kim) and Kimberly Schoemann (Chris); and his stepchildren, Christopher Barth, Lisa Letizia (Craig), Johanna Evans (Blake) and Carla Johnson. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
