Mary Luiz Ferreira Obituary

Mary Luiz Ferreira, age 90, of Corning, NY, passed away on Monday December 31, 2012 at Founders Pavilion in Corning. She was born in Corning on November 12, 1922 to the late Theodore and Bella (Comosh) Luiz. As a child Mary lived in and attended school in Madeira, Portugal. She returned to the United States in 1945, and lived in Los Angeles, CA, working as a housekeeper until she married Goncalo Ferreira on September 27, 1947 in Lowell, MA.

They made their home in Corning on Sunset Drive and she worked at Corning Glass Works until 1972. She was a homemaker, an avid bingo player, and a very outgoing person who will be missed by many. Mary is survived by her daughter: Mary Teresa (Charles) Bosket of Corning; son: Antonio (Linda) Ferreira of Churchville, MD; sisters: Laurinda Freitas of Corning, and Cecilia Gomes of Painted Post, NY; brother: Gabriel (Maria) Luiz of Los Angeles, CA; grand-children: Bonnie (Harold) Drake, Stephen, Michael, and Jason Bosket, Autumn, Joeanna, and Antonio Ferreira, and Lindsay Givens; great-grandchildren: Ashley, Justin, and Dylan Drake, Joshua, Noah, Zachary, Brandon, and Skylar Bosket, and Lyndon and Jaydon Walker; nieces: Linda (Robert) Flynn, Cecilia (James) Stiles and Mary Ann (Thomas) Stamilio.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Theodore and Bella Luiz; her husband, Goncalo Ferrreira; sister, Alice Luiz; sons: George and Thomas Ferreira; and great-grandson, Trenton Martin. Friends and family may call on Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Carpenter's Funeral Home, LLC, 14 East Pulteney Street in Corning.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11:00am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 155 State Street in Corning. Interment will immediately follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Corning. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mary's name may be directed to: Tanner's P.A.W.S., P.O. Box 1125, Corning, NY 14830.
