He was predeceased by: his parents, Melio Capo and Carmelita Capo; and his brother Vincent Capo. He is survived by: his wife Norma Capo; his children, Colleen Callahan Strong, Edward Callahan, Julie Machuga (Mike), Erin Smith (Karl) and Richard Capo Jr.; and his grandchildren, Kelly, Eric, Lindsay, Kayla, Karl, Matthew, Nathan, Jennifer, Cierra and Christopher. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many lifelong friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 8th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Carpenter's Funeral Home (14 E Pulteney St, Corning, NY 14830). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Wednesday, September 9th 2026 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the St. Mary's Mausoleum Park.
He was also inducted into the Corning-Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame for his outstanding contributions to football at Corning Free Academy.
