He was predeceased by: his parents, Lester Darling and Josephine Thompson (Grossi); his sister Gail Darling; his stepfather Roy Thompson; his brother Gene Darling; and his great grandchild Iris Booth.

He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Darling (Knight); his children, Jim Homza, Bud Darling (Marie), Gordy Darling, Jr. (Theresa), Ed Darling (Becky), Maleah Whitley (Joe), Dan Darling (Kara Knapp), Amy Tinker, Scott Knight (Sheila), Julie Lee (Warren) and Mike Kenyon (Ashlley Walling); his siblings, Gary Darling (Lynn), Jerry Darling, Greg Darling (Joannie), Gayland Darling (Lori Sturdevant) and Gwenn Rogers (Steven); and the mother of his children Paula Riese (Marshall). He is also survived by 30 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
