He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert B. Smith and Dorothy Smith (Budine); his wife Barbara C. Smith (Culver); his grandson Jesse Jordan; and his faithful cocker spaniels, Freckles and Buffy.
He is survived by: his children, Jacqueline Jordan (Scott) of Camden, SC, Jeffrey Smith (Teena) of Chesapeake, VA and James M. Smith (Valerie) of Lexington Park, MD; his grandchildren, Kimberly Frederick (James), Dustin Smith (Lindsay), Kristin Holmes (Chadd), Brandon Smith (Kelly), Kayla Nelson (Russell), Kaitlyn Blakeslee (Gray) and Sarah Barrett; his siblings, William Smith, Ronald Smith (Joyce) and Mary Dunne; and his close friend Lesley Ciullo. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 1st 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home (134 Main St, Delhi, NY 13753). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 2nd 2026 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church (4 Clinton St, Delhi, NY 13753). A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, September 2nd 2026 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at 4206 Turnpike Rd, Delhi, NY 13753. A burial was held on Wednesday, September 2nd 2026 at 5:00 PM at the Woodland Cemetery (2 Orchard St, Delhi, NY 13753).
