He was predeceased by: his parents, Myrtle Bryden (Church) and Edwin Bryden; and his brother Robert of North Carolina. He is survived by: his wife Laurel; his children, Rebecca Beiter (Scott) and Edwin Bryden (Cara) of Delmar; his stepson Paul Inglis (Laurie); his grandchildren, Lillian, Rayne Beiter, Eloise, Emmeline Bryden, Dylan, Darren and Davin Inglis; and his former wife Kathleen of Delmar.

He also received numerous awards for his contributions to highway safety research.
