He was predeceased by: his parents, Edmund Smoczynski and Florence Smoczynski (Wojcinski) of Dunkirk; and his brother James Smoczynski. He is survived by: his wife Elaine Smoczynski (Sikora); his children, Jeffrey Smoczynski (Susan) of Dunkirk and Jill Manzella (Daniel) of Dunkirk; his grandchildren, Brayden Manzella, Olivia Manzella, Cassandra Smoczynski and Ashlee Smoczynski; his pet Aggie; his sister-in-law Diane Ziegler; his sibling's children, Michele Anderson, Michael Ziegler and Julie Bender; his sister-in-law Ann Dalfonso; and his nieces, Lori Smoczynski and Andrea Smoczynski.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Lakeshore Humane Society.
