He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Hunkins and Frances Hunkins (LaChausse); and his wife Mary Lou Chisamore. He is survived by: his children, Gary Hunkins, John Hunkins and Susan Hayford, Jr. (Al); his stepson Robert "Bud" Tabor (Robin); and his daughters, Carol McGovern (Robbie) and Additionally. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many friends.
