He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry M. Houser and Mary Claren Houser; and his siblings, Marguerite Hewitt, Mary Arnold, Carl Houser, George Houser, Ruth Swenor, Hazel Snyder, Marietta Bonesteel, Harry Houser and John W. Houser, Sr..

He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Dayton Houser; his daughter Donna Welch (Robert); his grandsons, Chris and Matthew Welch (Katherine); his sister Alice Rogers (late Arbie); and his niece Joyce Smith (Thomas). He is also survived by numerous in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
