He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert T. Cryan and Ellen Lancaster Cryan; and his siblings, Ruth Constantine (Thomas), Robert Cryan (Betty) and Michael Cryan (Judy).

He is survived by : his children, Richard James Jr. (LeeAnn), Theresa, Michael (Debra), Debra Potter (Guy), Peter (Cathy) and Jill Cordes (James); and his siblings, Patricia St (George), Frank Cryan (Cathy), Margaret Handford (Bruce), David Cryan (Joann) and Mary Millett (Steven). He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
