He was predeceased by: his mother Myrtle A McEwen (Hess); his stepfather Carl "Jack" McEwen; his father Howard E. Shaffer; and his siblings, Betty Lauricella (Carl) and Dale F. Shaffer (Joanne).
He is survived by: his wife Helen "Tookie" McLeod (McLeod); his children, Susan Sessanna (Timothy), Wendy McCool (Tim), David Shaffer (Audrey) and Eric Shaffer (Tammy); his grandchildren, Timothy, William (Elise), Riley Sessanna (Anna), Victoria Kough, Colum Mecca, Dee (Madeleine), Sophia, Ella, Benjamin Shaffer, Tristen Webb, Eric Luke, Whyatt and Tookie Shaffer; his great grandchildren, Adelynn, Aubrey Boldt, William, Archer, Everly, Georgia Sessanna and Avery Winter; his brother John D.; and his sister-in-law Ann Christine "Chris" McLeod. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
David was a supporter of the SPCA of ERIE COUNTY where donations in David's name would be lovely in lieu of flowers.
