He was predeceased by: his father Ralph "Peanut" W. Matthews; and his brother Jody Matthews. He is survived by: his mother Sally J. Matthews (Allen); his sister Buffy Matthews (Robert Wilson); his sister-in-law Kim Matthews; his niece Brittany Daniels (Adam); his nephew Matthew (Mitch); and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Isaac, Nolan Hall, Kinsley and Owen Daniels. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
