He is survived by: his wife Marcia "Betsy" Horning (Herdlein); his children, Nicole Henneberg (late Mark) and Dr. Michael Horning, Jr. (Kimberly); his grandchildren, Derrick Horning, Garrett Henneberg, Gabrielle Henneberg, Corinne Henneberg, Evelyn Horning and William Horning; his siblings, Daniel Horning (Becky), Charles Horning and Laurie Calnan (Brendan); his siblings-in-law, Maryann Dawson (Steve), Dr. Richard Herdlein III (late Sharon), Susan Kennedy (late James) and Thomas Herdlein (Katie); his nieces and nephews, Peter Schmitt III (Joni), Deborah Schmitt, Paul Schmitt (Suzanne), Sean Kennedy, Daniel Kennedy, Richard Herdlein IV, Jon Herdlein (Dora Cheung), James Herdlein (Kristin), Erinn Kennedy Blaser (Gary), Brendan Herdlein (Felisha), Shannon Faber (Andy), John Calnan (Melissa), Ryan Calnan, Kennedy Horning, Matthew Horning and Augustus Horning; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Tricia Schmitt Teribury (David), Peter Schmitt IV (Danielle), Paul Schmitt, Jr. and Eliana Calnan.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM at the Lombardo Funeral Home (885 Niagara Falls Blvd, Amherst, NY 14226).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do what Mike did: play a song for someone who needs to hear it, or visit someone who has not had a visitor in a while.
