He was predeceased by: his parents, Francesco Sgro and Felicia Gramuglia Sgro; his former wife Lucy DiNardo Sgro; his wife Dorothy Bartkowski Sgro; his siblings, Josephine Sgro, Ralph (Beatie Sgro) and Pete (June Sgro); and his siblings-in-law, Angeline DiNardo Sgro, Rose (DiNardo), Gerald McLaughlin, Michael DiNardo, Margaret Estes, Donna Mashanic and Raymond Bartkowski.
He is survived by: his brother Dominic Sgro of Elmira; his sisters-in-law, Annette Laveck of Pittsford, NY and Gloria Wright (William) of Lawrenceville, PA; and his nieces and nephews, Mary Angela Mendonca (John), Dr. Madonna M. Santos (Jose), Martha Anne Macari (Jason), Patricia Samuels, Sean McLaughlin, Eileen Robbins (Rick), Seamus McLaughlin, Marie, Michael, Mark, Annie DiNardo, Phyllis, Sherry, Christy Sgro, Linda, Marla and Gina Sgro.
Visitation was held on Thursday, June 26th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the McInerny Funeral Home (502 W Water St, Elmira, NY 14905). A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, June 27th 2025 at 1:30 PM at the St. Patrick's Church (604 Park Pl, Elmira, NY 14901).
