Stephen Bosco Wang F.M.S. Obituary

Brother Stephen Bosco Wang died at the Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, New Jersey on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. He was 98 years old and in his 79th year of Marist religious life.

Brother Stephen was born in Beijing, China on December 26, 1927. He was the son of the late Andrew Wang and Mary Chang. He entered the Marist Brothers in 1947, and received the Marist habit in Beijing, China on August 5, 1948. He made his first profession of vows on August 5, 1949, in Macao, Portuguese Colony, China. Shortly after, he had to leave China and went to the Marist Scholasticate in Poughkeepsie, New York.

At the end of his scholasticate, Brother Stephen completed a BA in English in 1953. He made his final profession of vows at Esopus, NY in 1954, and continued his studies completing an MA in School Administration from New York University in 1969, an MS in Math from the University of Arizona in 1973 and an Ed.D from New York University in School Administration in 1976. He attended the Marist Brothers Second Novitiate Renewal Program in Fribourg Switzerland in 1963 and in 2002 he made the Vow of Stability at Notre Dame de l'Hermitage in France.

Brother Stephen began his ministry as a math and science teacher at St. Francis Xavier College, Hong Kong (1954-61) and then at Catholic High School in Sibu, Sarawak (1961-65). He came to the United States and taught math at Christ the King High School, Middle Village, NY (1965-69), chemistry at Marist High School, Bayonne, NJ (1969-77) and calculus at Cathedral High School in Boston, MA (1977-2002).

In 2003, he retired to the Molloy Community in Briarwood, NY and while there volunteered as a math tutor. He moved to the Champagnat Hall residence in Bronx, NY in 2024.

Brother Stephen is survived by three godchildren and his Marist Brothers.
