He was predeceased by: his parents, Maurice Shepherd and Frances Shepherd (Codey). He is survived by: his wife Nancy Shepherd; and his brother Christopher Shepherd. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

During that time, Pete taught me the intricate details of good scheduling practices and creating driver work assignments. But his biggest contribution to me was imparting his extensive knowledge of the American railroad industry and its history. We both shared a life-long interest in trains and I greatly appreciated his willingness to pass along what he knew.”
