He was predeceased by : his parents, Melvin Benson and Hazel Ross Benson; his wife Margaret E. Benson; his son Gary A. Benson; and his sisters, Marian Fitzella, Barbara Utavich, Rheta Tilburg, Dory Nelson and Leonna Davis.

He is survived by : his son Dr. Steven Benson (Nancy) of Jamestown; his sister-in-law Shirley Tracy; his grandchildren, Brenton Benson (Keiko Kibune), Kristin Whittington (John), Devon Mahaney (Lieutenant Colonel John), Kristal Benson and Tammy Piazza; and his great grandchildren, Kaito, Kohei Benson, Grace, William Whittington, Vivian and Evelyn Mahaney.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Village Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing at 4570 Route 60, Gerry, NY 14740.
