He was predeceased by: his parents, Timothy Scanlon and Florence Scanlon (Strauch); his former wife Joyce Lichtenberger; and his sister Florence Bevere. He is survived by: his wife Bette Hamilton; his children, Stephen Scanlon and Patricia Otto (Russell); his grandchildren, Heather, John, Carlyssa and Sarah; and his great grandchildren, Ryan and Maia. He is also survived by stepchildren and step grandchildren.
Years later, he was awarded the "Petrean Award" by the Saint Peter's Athletic Association, New Brunswick NJ for outstanding contribution to youth sports.
