He was predeceased by: his father Robert Bates; and his brother Bruce Bates. He is survived by: his mother Doris Mills (Chamberlin); his daughter Lisa Bates; his siblings, Donald Bates (Rebecca), Carole Harvey (Jack) and Janet Bates (Darryl); his sister-in-law Sue Bates; his stepbrother Gibby Mills Jr. (Audrey); and his friend Danny DePaulo. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
