He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Sawyer and Alverta Sawyer (Woodell); his wife Ethel G. Sawyer; his stepdaughter Mary Anne LaPoint; and his siblings, Donald Sawyer, Robert Sawyer, David Sawyer, Gary Sawyer, Jean Ryther, Patricia Sawyer and Phyllis.

He is survived by: his stepson Robert W. Whipple (Eileen); his grandchildren, Susan Williams (Scott), William R. Whipple (Amy), Crystal LaPoint and John Grogan; his great grandchildren, Olivia, Erika, Spencer (Kim), Schuyler Williams (Anna), Emily, Andrew Whipple and Megan; his great great grandchildren, Mathias, Jameson and Malyr; and his siblings, Debbie Lemery (David Hoffman), Ricky Sawyer (Carol) and Kenneth Sawyer (Chris). He is also survived by several nieces nephews and cousins.
