He was predeceased by: his parents, Carmen Rivera and Juan Rivera; his sons, Peter Rivera and Mark Rivera; and his grandson Edward Gutierrez.

He is survived by: his wife Marina Rivera; and his daughters, Lydia Colon, Wendie Delaney (William) and Lucy Matos (Michael). He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren and three great - great grandchildren.
