He was predeceased by: his parents, James and Kathleen; his sister Peggy; and his children, Brian and Patricia.

He is survived by: his siblings, Packie, Peter, Brendan, Jack, Phyllis, Frank, Matt, Gussie, Michael, Harry and Patricia; his wife Helen; his children, Gerard, Mary Clare and Eileen; his grandchildren, Ruadhán, Noah and Emilia; and his brothers, Wil and Malachy (Omagh). He is also survived by sisters in law, nieces and nephews.
