He is survived by: his sons, Herbert Edward Merritt III and Edward J. Merritt (Jacqueline) of Hyde Park; and his grandchildren, Maryann M. Merritt and Edward J. Merritt Jr.. He is also survived by four great grandchildren; as well as a niece and nephew.
