He was predeceased by: his parents, Millie Benson Smiley (Benson) and Commie C. Smiley Sr.; and his godmother Blanton. He is survived by: his friends, Deacon Johnny Wright, Deacon Johnny Terry, Gene "Spook" Lymon and Elder Amos Malone; his siblings, Julia Mae Collins, Leroy, John, Commie C II and Roxie Smiley; his great grandchildren, Baby David and Baby Alexander; his children, Taniesha Burton (Anthony), Monalita (Jamey), Ericka and Aaron Smiley II; his grandchildren, Caprice Malone, Nakia, Reuben Alexander, DeVante Johnson, Dejaun, Devondre Lafave, Tijah, Jerrin, Karije Henderson, Shanice Cooper (David), Latika Abbott and Alexandria; his great grandchildren, Christopher Cooper, Eston, Malia and Nullah Alexander; and his sisters, Odessa Ellerbee, Leler Stewart (Daniel), Millie Smiley and Betty Dennis (Louis). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Coming from a large closely knit family, he maintained tradition by building a strong foundation.

“Aaron has always been a True example of always caring for others. There has never been a limit to where he was willing to travel to help someone. During the numerous times I saw him at South Hill Elementary School as a Crossing Guard, it always warmed my heart to see him interact with the children as he stopped traffic for them going to and from School.
