John Gutenberger Obituary

He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Gutenberger and Gladys Gutenberger (O'Connor); and his siblings-in-law, Alyce Egan, Bruce Watkins and Jim Egan.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Gutenberger (Egan); his children, Tom Gutenberger, Karie Gutenberger Allison (Grahame Littlefair), Susie Gutenberger Fitzpatrick (Michael Fitzpatrick) and Kristin Gutenberger Grossman (Peter Grossman); his daughter-in-law Linda Gutenberger (Schmidt); his grandchildren, Morgan Sledge (Trey), Casey Gutenberger, Egan Gutenberger, Corey Gutenberger, Kyler Allison, Owen Allison, Aidan Allison, Emmit Allison, Olive Fitzpatrick, Oriel Fitzpatrick, Mick Fitzpatrick, John Grossman and Mary Grossman; his siblings-in-law, Betty Watkins, Ann Egan and Don Egan; and his nieces and nephews, Gutie, Rita Vickroy (Ron), Terry Egan, Tami Egan Addy (Dan Addy), Jamie Egan, Frank Egan, Stacey Egan, Jill Egan (Doug Cantanzaro), Michele Cyran (Mike), Tim Egan (Anna), Laura Watkins, Sarah Watkins and Adam Watkins (Sharon Smith). He is also survived by friends, colleagues, neighbors.

Visitation was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Parish Hall at St. Catherine of Siena (120 W Seneca St, Ithaca, NY 14850). A Mass was held on Saturday, September 5th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Saint Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church (309 Siena Dr, Ithaca, NY 14850).

In lieu of flowers, to honor John Gutenberger's remarkable legacy as a community leader and former mayor, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Foundation of Tompkins County.
