He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Baer and Mary Baer (Meister); his siblings, William Baer (Geraldine) and Mary Thorson (Walter); and his grandson Luke Richard Porteous.

He is survived by: his wife Carol Jane Baer (Bowling); his former wife Joan Riddell Baer; his children, Rebecca Porteous (David) and Jonathan Baer (Carolyn); his grandchildren, Benjamin (Polina), Jonathan, Nathaniel Porteous, Christopher (Lydia) and Noelle Baer; his great grandchildren, Vera Porteous and James Baer; his nephews, William Baer, Eric Baer and Walter Thorson; and his niece Lydia Green. He is also survived by spouses, children, and grandchildren; and many dear friends.
