He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Coan and Maude McKoon Coan; his wife Elizabeth "Betty" Bratt Coan; his son Wayne Coan; and his siblings, James Coan, Harold "Shorty" Coan, Nancy Lee and Patricia Bennett.

He is survived by: his daughters, Diane Ostrom of Jamestown and Sherrie Tonkin (Don) of Jamestown; his grandchildren, Jennifer Lindell (Norm), Jason Ostrom, Justin Ostrom, Jed (Kendra Mosher), Jakob Tonkin, Joshua Tonkin (Ashley Lundmark) and Jonah Tonkin (Lauren); and his great grandchildren, Jayla, Jude, Ty and Avery.

Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church or Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care.
