It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Hatsumi Whitehead of LaFayette, New York, who passed away on February 15, 2026, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. In the hush of twilight, as the stars twinkle in silent homage, we reflect on the legacy Hatsumi leaves behind and her impact on the lives of her loved ones. Though Hatsumi may no longer walk among us, her spirit lives on in the memories held dear by her family and friends, a guiding light that illuminates their paths in times of darkness.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Kenji Takenaka and Yuki Takenaka; her husband John Whitehead; and her siblings, Hiroko, Marehiro and Kozo.
She is survived by: her son Charles Whitehead (Deborah) of Ithaca; her grandchildren, Alex, Brad, Jimmy, Jill and John Whitehead; and her brother Chujiro.
