He was predeceased by: his parents, John and Martha Smutko (Kaczynski). He is survived by: his children, Kurt Smutko (Noreen), Liz Smutko (Jerry Steinbrink) and John Chan-Smutko (Gayun); his grandchildren, Casey, Jack and Nick; his sister Terry Howse (late Larry); and his pet Niblick.
