He was predeceased by: his parents, William Russell and Catherine Russell (Morten); his wife Patricia A. Russell (Kelleher); and his siblings, Kathleen Dunbar (Vic), Lillian Clark (Jack) and William Russell (Molly).
He is survived by: his children, Karen Anderson (Dave), Glen Russell (Tracey), Steven Russell (Khristine), Daniel Cantara (Lori), Denise Stevens (late Dale), Jacqueline Lakeman (Charles) and Scott Cantara; and his sister Celia Tremblett (late Fern). He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made in his name to Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, New York.
