Brian Francis Kuprian Obituary

Brian Francis Kuprian, 57, beloved father, son, brother, husband, and friend, died unexpectedly in San Francisco, Calif. on Jan. 22, 2019. Born in Copiague, N.Y., to William Francis and Margaret Rose (Curran) Kuprian on Feb. 11, 1961 he was a resident of Little Falls, N.Y. and attended Herkimer County Community College.

Brian lived a life full of adventure. He was a forest firefighter in Washington state, and a talented woodworker and cabinetmaker. He was also a skilled landscaper and owned and operated his own lawn care business on Long Island and later a custom cabinet shop. As a young man he enjoyed mining for Herkimer Diamonds and was a skilled gardener.

Brian was a talented guitarist and singer who loved the Grateful Dead and had a deep connection with live music and the music community. He was often seen attending shows and playing music across the country.

Brian was also a talented writer and enthusiastic reader and thinker, who thrived on the exchange of interesting and provocative ideas with his friends. He was an advocate of civil rights and a public speaker on drug policy and social justice reform, calling attention to political prisoners of the war against drugs.

Brian's children Khynna and Kupr, and his grandson Kameron were the pride and joy of his life. The legacy of Brian's kind spirit and zest for life will live on through them.

Brian married Lisa Roche on Oct. 12, 2013. They had a relationship based on mutual support and a deep love for one another. They enjoyed traveling and new adventures. They did more in their short time together than many do in a lifetime.

He will be remembered as a man full of kindness and love, never jealous of others’ successes or judgmental of their struggles. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and always there to brighten the lives of others.

Brian is survived by his loving wife, Lisa (Roche); his mother Margaret R. McGouey; his children Katherine Khynna Kuprian, William Francis Kuprian, step-daughter Bridget Schroeder and her son, his beloved grandson Kameron Gemme; his brothers Keith (Michele) Kuprian, Kenneth Kuprian; and sisters Kathleen (Robert) Husfeldt and Margaret Husfeldt; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

A Mass of Christian Burial in memory of Brian will be held at 10 a.m. on Feb. 23, 2019 at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 666 Albin Ave., West Babylon, N.Y. 11704. The family invites Brian's friends and family to a memorial celebration of Brian’s life to be held following Mass at 12 noon at The Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 560 N. Delaware Ave., Lindenhurst, N.Y. 11757.
