He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Shufelt and Crescent Shufelt (Robinson); his wife Zoe Elizabeth Shufelt (Alexander); and his siblings, Ralph "Buck", Grace, John "Jack", Ruth and Gary.

He is survived by: his children, David Shufelt (Paula), Kurt Shufelt, Alicia Teeter (Melvin, Jr.), Matthew Shufelt (Zhuo), Elizabeth Shufelt (Josh Pollock) and Andrew Shufelt (Katelyn). He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
