He is survived by: his children, Patrick Oates (Meg Laux), Monica Berry (James), Joseph Oates, Daniel Oates (Amy), Matthew Oates, Leslie Oates, David Oates, Stephine Luc (Lou) and Kathleen Oates-Bowen; his grandchildren, Shawn Berry, Kenon Gardner (Chris), Riley Oates, Antoine Ewing (Tiarah), Cameron Bowen, Skylar Luc, Christian Luc, Tyree Short (Michele), Malachy Oates, Zachary Oates and John Michael Oates; and his great grandchildren, Jimmy Berry, Jack, Mae Gardner, Alanni and River Ewing. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
