He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Vara and Philomena Vara (DiGilirmo); and his wife Barbara Price. He is survived by: his children, Patricia Hickey (Neil), Thomas and Robert Vara; his sister Mary Vigna; and his granddaughters, Allison and Ashley Hickey. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 12th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home, Inc. (692 US-6, Mahopac, NY 10541). A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 13th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. John the Evangelist Church (221 E Lake Blvd, Mahopac, NY 10541).
