We announce the death of Thomas J. Courtney in Mahopac, New York, who passed away on September 6, 2026, at the age of 56. He was loved and cherished by many people including: sons: Thomas, Michael, and Matthew Courtney; mother of sons: Andrea Courtney; father: Thomas J Courtney SR; sisters: Deborah Courtney and Maryanne Courtney-LaRue; brothers-in-law: Frank Loverro, Lance LaRue, and George Castegner; nephews: Andrew, Ryan, and Bo; nieces: MaryKate and Faith; bonus moms: Joanne DePaola and Clare Paulmeno; partner and caregiver: Sheila Cordelli; partner's sons: Tyler and Travis; aunt: Dorothy Ross; grandmother: Sadie Sorentino; mother: Mary Courtney; and many cousins, Pine Grove staff, referee and golf buddies, and countless friends.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home, Inc. (692 US-6, Mahopac, NY 10541). A funeral Mass was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the St. John the Evangelist Church (221 E Lake Blvd, Mahopac, NY 10541). A burial was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at the Amawalk Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cycle for Survival in Tom Courtney's memory, supporting rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
