He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles and Cleo. He is survived by: his wife Margaret "Peg" Vetter; his children, Dr. George of Greenville, SC, Douglas (Susan) of Clermont, FL, David (Patricia) of Salisbury, NC, Maryjane Harris (Mike) of Salisbury, NC and Donald (Jennifer) of Falls Church, VA; his grandchildren, Eric, Keith, Luke, Rob, Matthew, Jack, Scott, Stephen, Bethany, Melanie, Grace and Laine; and his brothers, David of Hilton Head, SC and Donald (Donna) of Churchville, PA.. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren.
