He was predeceased by: his father Frederick E. Barto; and his brother John "Jack" Barto. He is survived by: his mother Esther Barto (Johnson) of Massena; his wife Connie Whitman; his children, Eugene Jr., Rachel Barto of Galloway, Bridgett, Frederick Cassort of Massena, Brian and Heather Barto of Petersburg; his grandchildren, Victoria, Elizabeth Cassort, Kathryn, Logan, Alden and Britney Barto; and his sister Linda S. Barto of Vermont. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may honor Gene with donations to the VFW Honor Guard.
