The family announces the passing of John W. McElroy (Middletown, New York) on October 25, 2026. John, born on August 28, 1935, was part of many shared moments and relationships throughout life. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Evelyn McElroy and Deputy Chief Thomas McElroy; and his wife Betsy. He is survived by: his sisters, Evelyn (Gerzetic), Diane Gustafson (Ben) and Terry; his children, Coleen Hayden (Robert), Jack (Susie Finklestein), Brenda Milano, Denise Egbert (Steve), Brian (Kathy), Brigit (Mark Concilla), Amy McGarness and Krista Heilpern (Heath); and his grandchildren, Kassia, Emily, Jessica, Nicholas, Christopher, Dani, Jack, Kelly, Bradley, Anna, Thomas, Elliott, Sawyer, Kennedy, Ben, Patrick and John. He is also survived by 7 children from his first marriage and a step-daughter, his family, touching friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 30th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home (130 Highland Ave, Middletown, NY 10940).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made in Jack's name to the Middletown YMCA, where he was an active member for over 40 years. Donations will fund a memorial tribute to our beloved Jack and Betsy.
