He was predeceased by: his parents, August Oetzel and Louise Oetzel (Lupardo). He is survived by: his wife Fran Oetzel of Dingmans Ferry, PA; his children, James A. Oetzel, Jr. (Laura) of Newburgh, NY and Jillian Oetzel of Middletown, NY; and his granddaughters, Aurora Diane and Audrey Marie. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
