With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Van Tassel of Mountain Dale, New York, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on December 4, 2025 at the age of 88. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Mary Van Tassel to pay them a last tribute.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Levi Pitt and Harriet Babcock; her husband Robert Van Tassel; and her sons, Robert H. Van Tassel and Floyd Van Tassel.
She is survived by: her sister Joan Fairchild; her children, Maryann Van Tassel, Jane Schechner (Steven Schechner), Joyce Van Tassel-Pitt, George Van Tassel, Levi Van Tassel and Richard Van Tassel (Marilyn Ford); her son-in-law Steven Schechner of Florida; and her grandchildren, Timothy Pitt Jr., Joseph A. Pitt, Megan Van Tassel, Jason Van Tassel, Alex Schechner and Rebecca Schechner.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 11th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home (396 NY-52, Woodbourne, NY 12788). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 11th 2025 at 6:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's honor can be made out to Mountain Dale Fire & Rescue.
