He was predeceased by: his parents, William Thomas and Isabella Thomas; his son William Thomas III; and his siblings, Lois Clovis (Frank) and Richard Thomas (Marilyn).

He is survived by: his significant other Jean Layton Thomas; and his children, Sharon Johnson (Brian), Roseann Smith (Ralph), Scott Thomas (Tiffany) and Lisa Thomas. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
